Why An Active Recovery Is As Important As Your Workout!

Your body will thank you
You've just spent an hour, maybe two pushing your body to the limit. Time for a well earned rest on the couch, right? That's not always the case and why you might be better off with an 'active recovery' instead.
What exactly is active recovery? Active recovery is a low-intensity exercise following a high-intensity one. Examples of this are yoga, walking, swimming or the use of recovery products.
The science is fairly simple, instead of letting the muscles come to a full jarring rest, you continue blood flow to reduce lactic acid buildup, reduce overall soreness and maintain a consistent routine.
The wider benefits of an active recovery include;
- Reducing lactic acid buildup in muscles
- Eliminating toxins
- Keeping muscles flexible
- Reducing soreness
- Increasing blood flow
- Helping you maintain your exercise routine
There are three main ways of active recovery, they are;
- A warm down following a workout
- During intervals as part of circuit training
- On rest days following bigger workout sessions
While you can go for a walk, take a yoga class or get into the pool for a swim there's an even easier way to get your active recovery done using professional equipment from PTP.
