FAQ
Rugby training, answered.
What equipment do rugby players train with?
Most programs mix strength work for contact, speed and fitness work, and recovery. Bands and tubes go to any session, a weighted vest like the XGRAVT Weighted Vest adds load to push-ups, dips and runs, and a roller and massage balls look after your legs between sessions.
Are resistance bands good for rugby training?
Yes. Mini bands switch on your glutes and hips before you run, long bands add resistance to pushing, pulling and sprint drills, and both fit in a kit bag for warm-ups at the ground.
How should rugby players warm up?
Start with a few minutes of easy running, switch on your hips and glutes with a mini band, then finish with short sprints and contact drills. The banded glute bridge on this page takes two minutes.
What helps recovery after a rugby game?
Sleep, food and fluids come first. Then roll your quads, hamstrings and glutes on a soft roller, work your calves and feet with a foot roller or a massage ball, and keep moving gently the next day.
Rugby at PTP
Rugby training gear, explained.
Rugby asks your body for strength through contact, speed over the first few metres, a trunk that holds in the tackle and the ability to back up week after week. This collection sorts PTP training equipment into three phases, so you can build a kit around your position and your season instead of buying everything at once.
To prepare, start with a Microband X set and a Superband for your hips and shoulders, plus a Flexiband to stretch. To train, add the XGRAVT Weighted Vest, a Coreball and a heavy Powertube+ for strength, or an Aquacore for loaded lunges and carries. To recover, use a soft roller, massage balls and the Swap Foot Roller. Every band and tube comes in colour-coded levels, so forwards and backs can each find the right load. New to resistance training? Find your level in a few questions.
